Corsica is the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea after Sicily, Sardinia and Cyprus and easily wins over visitors, especially with its impressive landscape, to which it owes its nickname "Island of Beauty". The island has a coastline of more than 1,000 kilometres with numerous bays, imposing rock faces, and fantastic beaches. Fifty mountain peaks rise to over 2,000 metres in height and offer great views. The highest mountain in Corsica is the Monte Cinto. The Mediterranean climate in Corsica allows interesting vegetation to grow. This includes the Macchia – an evergreen bush forest stretching over half of the island. In spring, the macchia blooms in many colours and leaves the entire island intensely fragrant. One of the southernmost vineyards in France is located close to Figari. The southernmost town on the island, Bonifacio, is only 30 minutes from Figari Airport and is well worth seeing: it’s situated on an impressive limestone plateau.
